Experimental Investigations and Seismic Assessment of a Historical Stone Minaret in Mostar

Minarets, tall structures, connected or not to the mosque attract attention due their specific architectural features. Vulnerability seismic damage has been witnessed throughout history on and slender structures after earthquake ground motions. In that respect, it is of utmost importance investigate dynamic characteristics resilience historical stone minarets. This paper aims provide results an on-site investigation a minaret in Mostar deliver its assessment. The part Tabačica built at turn 16th 17th century City Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina. comprised identification by ambient vibration testing qualitative estimation masonry wall sonic pulse velocity testing. Besides modal analysis time-history was performed using Applied Element Method (AEM), considered appropriate tool for assessing behavior historic structures. A good match found between first natural frequency obtained which solid basis further assessment as tower-like structure. concentration stresses observed transition zones.
